The Camrose and District Craft Centre began in 1954 and is dedicated to providing facilities, equipment and instruction for the development of craftsmanship in the community.

Silk fusion is layers of unspun silk fibres that can be made into a flat piece or a three dimensional piece like this sample.

The silk fibres are gently layered between two pieces of screen and soaked with soap and water and then a textile medium.

The piece can be hung to dry flat or can be manipulated into a three dimensional piece.

The silk can be molded over an object such as this mask. Marbles were used to keep the fibre down in the eyes. the excess fibre was "scrunched" around the piece.

A smaller mask is used here...again the excess fibre is worked around the image.

Here the silk fibre has been worked around jars and will be removed when dry resulting in a similar vessel as shown above.

Brushes are used to apply the dye to speciallly prepared skeins. Once dyed, the skeins are wrapped in plastic and later they are rinsed and hung to dry. The one of a kind vibrantally colored skeins are now ready for weaving or knitting. |
